Besides actually being a parent, one of my greatest joys is teaching the Parenting Class at Suncoast. I think your relationship with your child is so important no matter what their age. Over the years, Becky and I evaluated tons of parenting curriculum, audited many parenting seminars, and read mountains of parenting books (okay…I read the books and shared the content with Becky…lol). Parenting is Heart Work by Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller has hands down been one of our favorites.
In this podcast, I had the pleasure to sit down with the lovely Rita and give the highlights of what I not only teach in the class, but what has proven with my own children to be building blocks of a solid, lasting and loving relationship. My kids are now 26 and 22. I have added several of my own insights from other sources and real examples (not all shining parenting moments…my “mother of the year” tiara can look a little tarnished at times) from our life.
I hope these help you parent your kids a little like God parents us…not a harsh tyrannical parent, but a loving one, who comes along side us when we don’t make the best decisions. Who loves us and is patient to care for us, no matter the circumstances.
And don’t forget to have fun with your kids! It’s the best!
